Have you ever had the feeling that you don’t belong?
When I was younger, people were always telling me that I should behave in a certain way, yet I didn’t feel like the person they wanted me to be.
Only you can answer the question – “who am I?”
Nowadays, it is becoming widely accepted that there is a difference between sex – our private parts – and gender – whether we identify as male or female. We can be born with one set of organs but feel as if we belong in the other camp – or in both, or neither.
If you identify that way, don’t be ashamed or think you have a problem. You’re just you.
But whatever happens, don’t suffer alone. Find someone to talk to. Get support.
Try to find sympathetic counsellors in your area, who deal with gender issues. You can start by searching online for “trans support” in your country.
Some people may want to take the plunge and decide to transition to another sex. If you’re lucky enough to live in a country where surgery and hormone therapy for transitioning are available, then you can discuss the options with a doctor at a specialist clinic.
We know there’s a lot to think about, and it’s important for everyone – regardless of how you feel about your gender – to look after your sexual health.
That’s why our website - Be In The Know - was set up in the first place: to help people understand more about gender, sexuality, sex and sexual health. So visit Be In The KNOW and just remember: no one can tell you who you are – only you can make that call. See ya!
