Mentor Mothers: She taught me how to live positively

Video
Video thumbnail

Margaret Odera works as a community health worker and mentor mother in Nairobi, Kenya. Her greatest joy is seeing mothers with HIV deliver healthy babies and helping them stay HIV negative.

Margaret met Brenda when she was pregnant and helped her to overcome the stigma she was facing and to have an HIV-negative baby. This experience inspired Brenda to become a mentor mother herself.

When women with HIV experience stigma in the community and sometimes even from healthcare professionals, it makes it hard for them to access sexual and reproductive healthcare, including antenatal care.

In this video, Margaret and Brenda share their experiences and advice for healthcare professionals on creating inclusive environments that reduce stigma and help women access the care they need.
